Is Your Make-up Aging You?

antiage

As we get older our skin needs change. What most women don't realize is that this also applies to your make-up. Your make-up needs change as you age as well.

I've compiled a few tips to help keep your make-up and skin looking fresh and ageless.

Eye Makeup
Choose cream shadows in with matte formulas and avoid shimmering shadows with particles. These particles can settle in fine lines and create an aging effect....they may be fun and glamorous but there's nothing glamorous about glitter in your crow's feet!

Choose powder-infused eyeliners in soft colors. Avoid blacks and dark shades as these darker colours can draw attention to dark circles and under-eye bags.

As you age your eyelashes become less fuller, so buy a brown, brownish-black, or soft-black mascara with a double-tapered brush to achieve the look of fuller lashes.

Eyebrows
If you have thinning eyebrows, use an eyebrow pencil or eyebrow powder, with gentle, short strokes from the inner corner of the eyes to the outer edges
  • For small eyes: Make your brows a little thicker by building them up just a bit on the top.
  • For deep-set eyes: Enlarge the space between the eyes and brows.
  • For close-set eyes: Widen the space between the brows a little by plucking, and extend the ends of the brows with an eyebrow pencil.
  • For wide-set eyes: Do not extend the eyebrows out at the ends; instead, pencil them in a little closer to the nose.

Lipstick & Gloss

Rodan + Fields products are available in Canada in August 2014.

It's always best to choose a lip moisturizer with a sunscreen to protect the thin skin on your lips from the sun. My favorite is Rodan and Fields ESSENTIALS Lip Shield Broad Spectrum SPF 25.  It helps protects your lips from the aging and burning effects of the sun!

When choosing a lipstick, select a creamy, moisturizing lipstick or a lip-gloss which adds a moist finish as well.

You want to avoid matte textures, because they can dry your lips!
